Premiere of Le Scaphandre et le papillon - AFI Fest, LA (November 8, 2007)Review Julian Schnabel won Best Director at the last Cannes Film Festival for this almost flawless movie. This is a beautiful movie, with gorgeous cinematography, script and music. The legendary Max von Sydow, Emmanuelle Seigner and Marie-Josée Croze give stunning supporting performances. The first 5 minutes of the movie as Jean-Dominique wakes up in the hospital is the best part. It's a totally unique experience. Anyone with college French should be able to get the jest of this movie without looking at the subtitles. The actors speak slowly, eloquently and very little slang is used. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly deservedly walked away with the audience award at the AFI Fest. Watch the Trailer Synopsis THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY is the remarkable true story of Jean- Dominique Bauby (Mathieu Amalric), a successful and charismatic editor-in-chief of French Elle, who believes he is living his life to its absolute fullest when a sudden stroke leaves him in a life-altered state.
