Customs Regulations Governing the Goods Carried by PassengersSanat Haml-O-Naghl, Scientific, Technical, Economic & Informative Summary: Under the Customs Regulations of Iran, passengers, - Iranian or foreign - , may take with them at the time of leaving the country, in addition to personal and travel effects, goods made in Iran without limitation, provided that the goods are not of commercial value. These regulations also cover foreign made goods up to 150,000 Rials. The goods prohibited under Customs Regulation include: arms, narcotic drugs, alcoholic beverages, gambling paraphernalia and transmitters. Text: Regulations covering outgoing passenger goods : 1. Outgoing passengers, both Iranians and foreigners are allowed to take out of Iran, in addition to travel and personal effects, goods made in Iran without any limitation and goods made out of Iran up to 150,000 rials worth, provided the goods (Iran made or otherwise) are not of commercial interest. A passenger may also take out with him one piece of carpet or two pieces of small rugs, totaling 12 square meters in area. 2. Unauthorized or Conditional Goods: -- Household goods may not be taken out except by foreigners who were officially employed in Iran or studied as university students (at the end of their study or employment and within conventional limits). -- Exiting antique articles and manuscripts is prohibited. Regulation covering admission of passenger goods: Incoming passengers (Iranians and foreigners) entering Iran from abroad or from free trade and industrial zones, are allowed to release, in addition to travelling and personal effects, once a year, goods worth up to 150,000 Rials, as listed hereunder, with exemption from customs duties and commercial benefits and in later arrivals up to the same value 150,000 Rials worth, but without tax exemption. The condition required for the release of these goods (new or second hand) is that they are not religiously and/or legally prohibited, and are not of commercial interest. List of admissible goods:
Furthermore, in case the luggage of the incoming passengers include refrigerators, fridge - freezers, freezers, coolers, washing machines, dish washers, gas cookers, televisions, videos, video cameras, and crockery, customs duties double trade tariffs must be paid for clearance. Importation of used household goods and personal effects: Importation of used household goods and used personal effects by passengers is not authorized unless they are the personal effects of Iranians who have been residing abroad for at least one year and have not been back during the last six months of their stay. Used household paraphernalia and used personal effects of foreign citizens who arrive in Iran to stay may be released provided that they have been transported from the passenger's homeland and arrive at the Customs from one month prior to the passenger's arrival to nine months thereafter, and suit to the passenger's appearance and social standing, and are not of commercial interest. Compliance with other terms and conditions stated in paragraph 6 of Article 37 of the Customs Affairs Law is mandatory. Regulations Governing Foreign Currencies and Rials
Freight Passengers may take their baggage and effects with them or send them by freight. To freight his/her luggage a passenger must refer to authorized customs holding his/her passport and a confirmed ticket.
